Affirmations of Faith

  1. A Profession of Faith
  2. We believe there is one God, whose nature is love; revealed in one Lord Jesus Christ, by one Holy Spirit of grace.

    We believe the authenticity, genuineness, and inspiration, of the Holy Scriptures; that both the Old and New Testaments contain the revealed will of God and that the Bible is the supreme written authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

    We believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. He came in the flesh, died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures.

    We believe, that holiness and true happiness are inseparably connected; and that believers should do that which is right, and strive to maintain order, and practice good works, for these things are good and profitable to all people.

  3. Revised Apostle's Creed
  4. We believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

    We believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died for our sins, and was buried. On the third da y he rose again. He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father from where he comes to judge the living and the dead.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy universal Church, the communion of believers, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the dead, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  5.
  6. The Minister:

    Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is one true Church, Apostolic and Universal, whose Holy Faith let us now reverently and sincerely declare:

    The Minister and People:

    We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all His works, and whose will is ever directed to His children's good.

    We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father's unfailing greace, the ground of our hope and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit as the Divine Presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need.

    We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

  7.
  8. We believe in the one God, Maker and Ruler of all things, Father of all men; the source of all goodness and beauty, all truth and love.

    We believe in Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, our Teacher, Example, and Redeemer, the Savior of the world.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit, God present with us for guidance, for comfort and for strength.

    We believe in the forgiveness of sins, in the life of love and prayer, and in grace equal to every need.

    We believe in the Word of God contained in the Old and New Testaments as the sufficient rule of both faith and of practice.

    We believe in the Church as the fellowship for worship and for service of all who are united to the living Lord.

    We believe in the kingdom of God as the divine rule in human society; and in the brotherhood of man under the Fatherhood of God.

    We believe in the final triumph of righteousness, and in the life everlasting. Amen.

  9. Articles of Faith, 1790
  10. Of the Holy Scriptures: We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to contain a revelation of the perfections and will of God, and the rule of faith and practice.

    Of the Supreme Being: We believe in one God, infinite in all his perfections, and that these perfections are all modifications of infinite, adorable, incomprehensible, and unchangeable love.

    Of the Mediator: We believe that there is one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, in whom dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, who by giving himself a ransom for all, hath redeemed them to God by his blood; and who, by the merit of his death, and the efficacy of his spirit, will finally restore the whole human race to happiness.

    Of the Holy Ghost: We believe in the Holy Ghost, whose office is to make known to sinners the truth of this salvation, through the medium of the Holy Scriptures, and to reconcile the hearts of the children of men to God, and thereby to dispose them to genuine holiness.

    Of Good Works: We believe in the obligation of the moral law as to the rule of life; and we hold, that the love of God manifested to man in a redeemer, is the best means of producing obedience to that law, and promoting a holy, active, and useful life.

  11. Winchester Profession of Faith, 1803
  12. We believe, that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments contain a revelation of the character of God, and of the duty, interest, and final destination of mankind.

    We believe there is one God, whose nature is love; revealed in one Lord Jesus Christ, by one Holy Spirit of grace, who will finally restore the whole family of mankind to holiness and happiness.

    We believe, that holiness and true happiness are inseparably connected; and that believers ought to maintain order, and practice good works, for these things are good and profitable unto men.

  13. Five Principles of Faith, 1899
  14. We believe in the Universal Fatherhood of God,
          the spiritual authority and leadership of His Son Jesus Christ,
          the trustworthiness of the Bible as containing a revelation from God,
          the certaintity of just retribution for sin,
          and the final harmony of all souls with God.

  15. From Gloria Partri Revised Prayerbook, 1903
  16. I believe in God, the Father Almighty and Universal;
          and in Jesus Christ his Son, the true teacher, example, and Savior of the world.

    I believe in the Holy Spirit, the quickener and comforter of men.

    I believe in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as a revelation of righteousness, truth and love.

    I believe in the Holy Church Universal;
          in the communion of saints;
          in the certainty of punishment for transgression;
          in the forgiveness of sins;
          in the life immortal;
          in the final triumph of goodness and mercy;
          and in the union and harmony, at last, of all souls with God.

  17. From The Affirmation of Faith, 1960
  18.       I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;

          And in Jesus Christ His Only Son, our Saviour and our Lord; Who was made Flesh, being conceived by Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hades (the unseen), and on the third day was roused from among the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

          I believe in the Holy Spirit: that proceedeth from the Father and the Son; the Church of Christ, which is his Body; the fellowship of saints; justification of those called in grace; the rapture of the members of Christ's Body, living and dead, to meet Him in the air; the resurrection of the just and the unjust; and universal reconciliation, the goal of the Universe, when God shall become All in all. Amen.
